Park City Fantasy Camp

Program Overview :

Host to the 2002 Olympic Winter Games' luge, bobsled, and skeleton competitions, as well as some nordic skiing events, Park City, Utah is known for more than being an alpine ski Mecca and host of the annual Sundance Film Festival. The scenic village offers a variety of winter sports including cross country skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and sleigh rides. Away from the slopes, downtown offers exclusive dinning and shopping sites.

The Olympic luge run, completed in 1997, is the fastest luge track in the world, and the Park City Fantasy Camp  is your chance to experience the thrill of sliding down the 2002 Olympic track and to see what it is like to be a luge athlete!

Two days of sliding will provide ample time to learn the basics of the sport, while giving you the skills needed to to safely negotiate the world's fastest track. Our coaches (Olympic Team and National Team members, Olympic Medal winner) will cover the basics of starting and steering a luge sled, as well as proper sled care and maintenance. All sliding sessions will be videotaped for review with the coaching staff. This technique, used by the U.S. team athletes, will help the new sliders learn and understand the principles taught by the coaches.

The camp participants will get a chance to work on their start technique during a "flat ice" practice session. During the summer months, the U.S. athletes spend about four hours each week doing "flat ice" training, working on the two basic elements of the start -- the pull and the paddle. Camp participants will get a chance to work on these skills..

The weekend culminates with a race during the final on-ice session, and a farewell banquet will be held at the Stein Eriksen Lodge in nearby Deer Valley, Utah. Stein Eriksen, a 1952 Olympic Gold Medalist in alpine skiing, opened this exclusive lodge in 1982. Since then, the lodge has gained a reputation as one of the finest dining spots in the entire state.

A fee of $2,000 (a portion of which is tax deductible) is collected for the camp. Call 1(800) USA LUGE for more information.
