Seven athletes nominated to 2024 Youth Olympic Winter Games U.S. luge team

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – USA Luge today announced seven athletes have been nominated to represent the United States at the Gangwon, South Korea, 2024 Youth Olympic Winter Games. The race will take place at the Alpensia Sliding Center, site of the 2018 Olympic Winter Games, on January 19-February 1, 2024. 

 

In women’s doubles, Sadie Martin (Vermontville, N.Y.) and Haidyn Bunker (West Farmington, Ohio) have met the qualifying standards to compete, while in men’s doubles Nathan Bivins (Castleton, N.Y.) and Wolfgang Lux (Swanton, Vt.) have earned a nomination.  

 

Two women met the standard to race in the singles competition. They are Elizabeth Kleinheinz (Santa Clara, Calif.) and Talia Tonn (Cecil, Wisc.).  

 

Orson Colby (Riverton, Utah) will compete in the men’s division.  

 

The field is limited to 15 sleds in both doubles’ disciplines and 20 sleds for the singles disciplines.  

 

Qualifying was determined through International Luge Federation (FIL) sanctioned events, including Continental Cup, Youth A World Cup, Junior World Cup or World Cup competitions during the 2023 and current seasons. 

 

Athletes eligible to compete must have been born between January 1, 2006 and December 31, 2009.  

 

While USA Luge nominates the team, the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee will officially name the team on or about January 5, 2024.   

 

Luge training will begin on January 15, 2024, and a schedule for luge competitions can be viewed at 

 

The Team USA Coaching staff will include two-time Olympian Jayson Terdiman (Berwick, Pa.), 2014 Olympian Aidan Kelly (West Islip, N.Y.) and two-time Olympian for Latvia, Arturs Darznieks.
