Medals for USA Luge in Bludenz Junior World Cup

BLUDENZ, Austria – Aidan Mueller won a bronze medal at the fifth Junior World Cup event of the 2023-24 luge season, followed up by a silver medal for the doubles team of Logan Barnes and Gavin Davis.
The Bludenz course, dedicated to young athlete development, is the newest track in the world, utilizing lower cost construction techniques.
Mueller (West Islip, N.Y.) clocked a two-run combined time of one minute, 5.462 seconds. Marco Leger of Germany won the race in 1:04.961, while Austrian Noah Kallan was second in 1:05.354.
Matt Greiner (Park City, Utah) returned from a stint on the World Cup with the National Team, placing seventh in 1:05.925. Seth Coates (Potsdam, N.Y.) finished 10th in his second-ever Junior World Cup competition in 1:06.006. Logan Barnes (Milwaukee Wisc.) was 12th in 1:06.551.
Germany’s Pascal Kunze and Max Trippner took men’s doubles gold in 1:08.279 over Barnes and Gavin Davis (Berwick, Pa.) in 1:17.512. Germans Corbinian Hänel and John Paul Kühmel took third in 1:46.196.
In women’s singles, Sophia Gordon (Sussex, Wisc.) placed 11th in 1:07.821. Brianna Gosnell came in 14th place in 1:23.248 in her second-ever Junior World Cup event. Park City, Utah athletes Emma Erickson and Macey Schomaker both did not start the race.
Germany swept the podium, with Alina Brutigam victorious in 1:05.854. Josephine Buse was second in 1:06.275, with Laura Koch third in 1:06.375.
The Junior World Cup season will take a break next week as focus shifts to Altenberg, Germany for the World Championships beginning on Friday, January 26. The Junior World Cup series will come to an end Feb. 2-3 in St. Moritz, Switzerland, followed by the Junior World Championships February 16-17 in Lillehammer, Norway.
