The Norton USA Luge National Championships will take place on November 3rd and 5th in Park City, Utah. Fans can watch the races live starting at 2:30 PM MT each day on the Utah Olympic Park's YouTube channel.
The singles format will feature four runs over two days, while the doubles title will be decided in a two-heat race on November 5th. The schedule follows the Olympic competition format, except that the singles competitions take place on consecutive days during Games time.
The field will feature members of the USA Luge National Team, along with a handful of Junior National Team athletes.
The women's doubles field will feature World Championship medalists Chevonne Forgan and Sophia Kirkby. The new doubles team of Maya Chan and Sophia Gordon will make their competition debut. Chan competed with Reannyn Weiler for the past five seasons and decided to change teammates in the spring.
2022 Olympians and World Cup winners Zack DiGregorio and Sean Hollander will lead the field in men's doubles. Challengers will include last season's World Championship relay silver medalist Dana Kellogg and Frank Ike. Reigning Junior World Champions Marcus Mueller and Ansel Haugsjaa will also be aiming for the top step of the podium. Although Mueller/Haugsjaa and members of the Junior National Team, they are expected to spend most of the season with the National Team.
Park City local and 2022 Olympian Ashley Farquharson hopes to take advantage of home ice, but veteran teammates Summer Britcher and Emily Sweeney cannot be counted out. Britcher and Sweeney have both raced in multiple Olympic Games and stood on many World Cup and World Championship podiums collectively. Another Park City local, Emma Erickson, marks her first competition as a member of the National Team following several years on the Junior National Team. Macey Shomaker of Park City will compete on the Junior National Team this season but was invited to race in the Norton National Championships.
After winning his 12th USA Luge Start Championship title this summer, three-time Olympian Tucker West will be among those in mix for the gold. 2022 Olympian Jonny Gustafson is carrying momentum after his best-ever World Cup season last year, while Hunter Harris seeks to build some momentum of his own. Two-time Junior World Championship medalist and Park City local Matt Greiner aims to make a mark in his first race as a member of the National Team. Two Junior National Team athletes, Aidan Mueller and Logan Barnes, have also been invited to compete.
The National Team's season began earlier this month with training weeks in Norway and Latvia. Next week, the team will head to Whistler, British Columbia, site of the 2025 World Championships, for training. The World Cup season klicks off in Lillehammer, Norway with competitions taking place November 29-December 1.
