ST. MORTIZ, Switzerland—The first World Cup races following the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 were held today, with Summer Britcher placing seventh in women’s singles. The four-time Olympian Britcher (Glen Rock, Pa.) clocked a time of one minute, 48.853 seconds.
2026 Milano-Cortina bronze medalist Ashley Farquharson (Park City, Utah) and three-time Olympian Emily Fischnaller (Lake Placid, N.Y.) did not compete as all Team USA athletes have returned to the U.S. following closing ceremonies at the Winter Games. Britcher is the only U.S. athlete competing in the final two races of the World Cup season as she has a chance of earning a top three finish in the overall World Cup standings.
Following her gold medal at the 2026 Winter Games, Germany’s Julia Taubitz wore gold again today, winning the race with a time of 1:48.144. Her teammate, Merle Fraebel, was second in 1:48.265, and Itay’s Verena Hofer was third in 1:48.369.
In overall World Cup points, the battle for the crystal globes is heating up as just 19 points separate the top two leaders. Taubitz is in first place with 549, Fraebel is second with 530, and Austria’s Lisa Schulte is third with 498. Britcher is mathematically eliminated from first place, but still within reach of the silver and bronze overall with 440 points. Farquharson is 11th with 285 and Fischnaller is 25th with 123.
The season finale will be held March 7-8, in Altenberg, Germany. All World Cup races can be seen live on the FIL YouTube page, Max and Discovery+. Weekly highlight shows are also available on the NBC Sports YouTube channel.
