Lake Placid, N.Y. – The top young luge athletes in the nation raced on March 7-8 at the Mt. Van Hoevenberg luge course under warm spring temperatures at the Norton Youth National Championships. The races featured five categories and took place over two days. The exceptions were the doubles race, which took place on March 8 and was open to men and women, and the Youth A men’s race. The latter was only run on March 7 due to warm temperatures the following day forcing the closure of the upper portions of the track.

The Youth A athletes are between the ages of 14 and 18. The women’s race was won by Kendal Achen (Manheim, Pa.) with a three-run combined time of two minutes, 22.052 seconds. Breckan Luedke (Manasha, Wisc.) was second in 2:23.355 and Brynn Davison (Stansbury, Utah) was third in 2:23.467.

The Youth A men’s race was won by Ian Cowden (Collingswood, N.J.) in 1:37.459, with Chris Brand (Downers Grove, Ill.) second in 1:37.613. Caleb Dusek (New London, Wisc.) was third in 1:37.619.

The Youth B women’s race, for athletes aged 13 and under, was won by Sophia Etheridge (Westerville, Ohio) in 2:5.295. Stephaine Hoylman (Columbus, Ohio) was second in 2:25.983 and Delilah Salgoado (Ashland, Mass.) was third in 2:26.061.

The Norton Youth B men’s champion was Bryson Palisoc (Lisle, Ill.), with Camden Maher (Columbus, Ohio) second in 1:34.353. Hawker Craig (Herber City, Utah) was third in 1:34.880.
