A sharp runner edge gives a luge athlete more control but also creates friction and is not as fast. Conversely, less edge is faster but harder to control.

This devise is an adjustable edge sanding jig for luge steels.  The angle of the inside edge of a steel is a very important part of the setup and a key performance point.  This jig is adjustable as every athlete’s edge is set differently.

The cross member is a carbon fiber tube (reclaimed hockey sticks), the attachment pieces are made with aluminum angle and channel material, and the block that holds the file or sandpaper oak wood.  Finally, there are two wood protector guides that allow the jig to slide along the steel edge without causing damage.

This part was created using SolidWorks Assemblies to refine placement and do movement analysis to ensure clearance of all moving parts.
